Innovative is one of our favorite adjectives, to the point that it’s losing its meaning. You can’t get through the business section of a newspaper, or more than a few car commercials, or an oped on education reform before you bump into innovative and innovation. But what’s it really mean? A new product? A new process? An improved design? All well and fine, but unless this new “whatever” changes the world for the better in a significant and meaningful way, it’s just trivia.
